CONSUMER ALERT — INTERNET VEHICLE SALE SCAMS

May 22, 2009

Within the last 24 hours PrimePay has learned that perpetrators of an Internet scam are falsely using PrimePay's name and logo to lure consumers into purchases of bogus vehicles or other goods. It works like this. Advertisements for automobiles at attractively low prices are posted on Internet classified advertising sites. The purported seller will offer to ship the car to the buyer, but "to protect both parties" the seller is using a third-party payment and merchant processing service through PrimePay. The buyer is emailed an invoice with payment instructions that include not only submitting a MoneyGram to PrimePay, but faxing or emailing the payment details to a "PrimePay representative" or "receiver." This invoice contains PrimePay's official logo and references to actual PrimePay office locations. The instructions say that PrimePay will hold your money until you have an opportunity to inspect the goods following delivery. In truth, there is no such PrimePay account and in all likelihood there is no such vehicle. Please do not fall for this fraud. By sending a wire or money order and providing payment details, criminals will simply take your money.

In a new twist, criminals pose as members of the U.S. military and indicate that they have just been deployed to Iraq or a foreign country and must "sell their vehicle immediately."

Please be aware that this is a complete scam. PrimePay does not provide payment or escrow services of this type to consumers and has not authorized any person to use our name in this fashion.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is aware of this scam and is investigating. If you are approached by an Internet seller who proposes such a payment scheme involving PrimePay, or believe you may have been a victim, you may file a complaint at the FBI's Internet Crimes Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
